Mailing Lists

What is a Mailing List?

A mailing list is a way of sharing messages with other people who wish to discuss the same topic.

What is the Gerbil Mailing List (GML)?

The Gerbil Mailing List was created in January 1995 when Sharon Kahn arranged for Rice University to host a gerbil  mailing list. At the time there were only about 20 subscribers, mainly people who met on the newsgroup rec.pets during 1993 and 94 and continued gerbil discussions in private mail by copying their messages to the other people. This was inefficient and Sharon deserves our gratitude for finding such a good host for the list.

Since those days more than ten years ago, the list has grown in popularity as the internet has grown. The list now boasts approximately 220 members and its far ranging discussions cover almost any imaginable topic relating to gerbils.

In January 2002 it became apparent that Rice University, which had hosted the list since it was created would no longer be available. A new home was found at Topica.com.

To join the Gerbil Mailing List. follow the instructions in the FAQ.

There are guidelines on acceptable behaviour on the GML. Have a look at the Charter before joining.

You can view old posts to the list whilst it was at Rice at the Mail-Archive

All messages to the new list are archived at Topica.com.
